I think some Molde supporters were a bit frustrated after losing the championship at home to Moss and Eggen in 1987.
But the real rivalry between Rosenborg and Molde began in 1988 when Eggen returned to Trondheim and the clubs met in the quarter final of the cup. Some more background information.
Often we have drawn at home and won in Molde. 1990, 1998 and 2009 are highlights among the away matches. |

Eggen left for Moss in 1986 after managing Rosenborg and Norway since 1971. He then returned to Rosenborg in 1988. |

For me (and my brother) the rivalry occurred naturally during the 90's. We "hated" Lillestrøm and Molde. LSK was given, since they were one of few teams posing a threat at som level, and we grew up in an area where most of kids our age were LSK-fans, and (like most others in Norway at the time) envied Rosenborg for their success. Molde was on of the few other clubs who was somewhat of a challenge in short periods of the era. They also had a few players only a mother could like.
I don't feel the same kind of "hate" i did in my youth anymore, but Molde is by far the club that grinds my gears the most nowadays. As a club Molde would be a decent club in the second level, if it wasn't for the insane amount of money they have been given over the last clouple of decades. Even with young players and economically reasonable signings, they depend on the 20-25 million NOK they've been given from their benefactors dating back at least to the turn of the century. _________________ Influencerâ„¢ |
