The Norwegian Cup has a very special status. It was first arranged in 1902, and is in fact still the official Norwegian football championship. The cupwinners are consequently the rightful Norwegian champions!
The reason for this, is of course the fact that the first national league was arranged as late as in 1963.
On Wednesday Rosenborg begun the journey which hopefully ends with a new cupfinal at Ullevaal Stadium: Kvik - Rosenborg 1-8 |

There is no draw in the three first rounds. The NFF just make the fixtures. Don't know when they will be annonced. |

if the NFF do not make a draw for the first 3 rounds, how do they decide the games?
do they just let the small teams play the big ones? |

Basically yes. But they look at the history too, so there won't be the same fixtures each season. |

But that sucks, then the small teams have no chance. _________________ ~GA

The small teams don't oppose it too much, as they get a lot of money from the crowds on these games... _________________ 4-4-3 |

In addition to this, they don't have to travel all over the country to meet another division 3 club. The players are amateurs and actually often don't have the possibility of take a day or two off; the distances are big and airline flights irregular so they often have to travel back the day after the match. |

Well we don't do it like that, the little ones play the little teams and then they go to the second round and third till it gets to something like round 8th or 9th and these teams play the big teams and then it goes to finals so it gives much more chances to the small teams from the lowest leagues in Israel to get there, we had 3 teams in the finals from the 5th league and 4th I think _________________ ~GA

I like the systems used in Israel, France, Germany, etc where teams from lower leagues are protected (for example by automatic home advantage when facing a team from a higher league). In my native Belgium the big clubs are protected, which is horrible and reduces the cup to a worthless tournament no one is interested in. The league is the playground of the rich and the famous, in the cup you need sensations and small clubs that cause upset.

Rosenborg was close to losing on Lerkendal in the cup for the second year in a row, but Per Ciljan Skjelbred saved the day.
Read more: Rosenborg - Raufoss 2-1 a.a.t.
Our new coach is not the greatest, but he always finds something else than himself and his complete lack of competence to blame. We were the defending team at home! Against a second division club! |

RBK is in the semi-final, Lillestrøm crashed out... We've got a good chance to win the double even. Is it known yet who we'll face in the semi finals? _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

Yes, Sandefjord at home 21 September, hopefully an easy win. I really want a new cupfinal! As explain in the first post in this thread, the cup is really special here in Norway. |

we're going to win both league and cup anyway, so it will be Champions League (for once allow me to be over-confident!) _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

Still no comments on yesterday's 2-5 loss against Sandefjord?
I'm of course chocked, but somehow a bit reliefed that this happened in the cup (which I think is more an extra - like dessert) and not in the league.
By the way: A dark and rainy night |

I guess I share your feelings. It is not pleasant, and such a score is a bit of an embarrassment, but luckily it happens in the cup. If we can win the league, then no one will still complain about that one loss vs Sandefjord. The league is priority. Not that it's not a very pity to crash out of the cup, but still... let's not dramatise too much and re-focus on the next league games. Maybe in a way this will be a sign to the players that they're still capable of losing and that they need to stay focussed 100% -- in a way hopefully this loss will have a good effect on the league, with players motivated to set things right. The best apologise to us fans would be a victory in the next league game! _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!
