Romanian titan clash in the quarter finals:

Rapid - Steaua Twisted Evil

Al least now we are sure that we have one semifinalist.

Quarterfinals:
1. Sevilla-Zenit
2. Basel-Middlesbrough
3. Rapid Bucuresti-Steaua
4. Levski-Schalke

Semifinals:
1. Winner quarterfinal 4-Winner quarterfinal 1
2. Winner quarterfinal 3-Winner quarterfinal 2

Zenit - Steaua in the final, I think they are the best remaining teams in the tournament.

Zenit are my favourite to take the title. But Steaua also got some great players; Iacob, Radoi, Nicolita etc.

The first leg of the Romanian quarter final in the UEFA Cup just ended.

Rapid - Steaua 1-1

Next week, on the National stadium, 50,000 people will cheer for Steaua. Let's hope we go through!

I think some Steaua fans are unsatisfied with their keeper tonight...

Yep. Zenit lost 1-4 in the end, so now Steaua is the only one of our opponents able to go through.

Good to see Steua win against their rivals.
Let's see if they can reach the final.

I would like Steaua to win the UEFA Cup. Despite their reputation, they're still a bit of a minnow compared to the German, English and Spanish teams. Of course Zenit would have been the best (then we could say we were only beaten by the later winner of the tournament) but I'm fine with Steaua winning it.

Steaua - M'boro 1-0

Unfair result, Steaua had a lot of chances, but missed them. This match reminded me of Steaua - Rosenborg when we missed a lot of chances at 1-0 and then you scored the equalizer, only this time the English didn't manage to score.

This goal gives Steaua a slight advantage and we hope our defense will do its job in England.

1-0 is at least better than nothing - especially for me, who made a small bet on you. Smile

We actually call it "coach", not manager. And yes, Oleg Protasov left Steaua in the winter break and left a Romanian coach, Cosmin Olaroiu, in charge.

He went to his home town team, as head coach (Dnepr from Ukraine) for a bigger pay check I guess.

Middlesbrough - Steaua 4-2

Our Romanian friends led 2-0, but didn't make it. I think they experienced something like we did in the CL qualifyers; you shouldn't think you're through before you really are.

At least you did give us a lot of nice goals and excitement. Tommel'n opp!

Yup, the end of the road for Steaua in this year's European competitions. However we're still top of your domestic table with a good chance to win and make it to the UCL. Very best of luck to RBK and thanks for the support.

A sad end for Steaua, I must say... From 3-0 up to 3-4 down. How the hell did that happen?

Steaua were a bit lucky with their 2-0 lead because both goals came after big mistakes from the Middlesbrough goalkeeper. Then they were a bit unlucky on some of the goals against.

Too bad Steaua didn't make it. Middlesbrough in the UEFA cup final was, for me, probably the worst that could happen.
I'm really angry right now, that they got the four goals they needed.
All because of the sheep named Souness, and a certain Didier Drogba.

I was really frustrated last Thursday, I so badly hoped Steaua would win the UEFA Cup. The 'Boro keeper fumbled indeed, but so did the Steaua goalkeeper. Alberto Carlos made a serious error in two of the goals, especially Middlesbrough's equaliser was a serious goalkeeper error.

Frustrated, argh... Hopefully Sevilla can erase some of the frustration by trashing M'boro Cool
