Veterans of 11 group stage campaigns, Rosenborg may not have been quite so wary of Icelandic champions Breidablik in previous seasons. The 2011 campaign has been a sharp break from the norm for the Trondheim outfit, though, and coach Jönsson said:

"We will not underestimate them. "The Champions League adds spice to our season and was a real motivation for the squad when we were struggling at the start of the season"."

Did you get to see the match? Henriksen scored on a long drive again. He really showed his good, old game after switching position with Winsnes. Promising. I'm really looking forward to see Isaah in the defensive and Henriksen in the offensive position. Smile

We'll draw one of the following five alternatives tomorrow (live at 12:00):

Racing Genk (Belgium)
Pyunik (Armenia) - Viktoria Plzen (Czech rep.) [0-4]
Valletta (Malta) - Ekranas (Lithuania) [2-3]
Zestafoni (Georgia) - Dacia Chisinau (Moldova) [3-0]
Malmö (Sweden) - HB Torshavn (Faroe Islands) [2-0]

Ekranas seems like the far best draw, both in terms of strength and travel distance. We also know we are a better team after the Intertoto clash three years ago:

Ekranas - Rosenborg 1-3
Rosenborg - Ekranas 4-0

They were excellent last season, but little bit lucky - the whole season with stable 11, not so many injuries. Seems they have a lot of money right now, they didn´t sell almost any players after the succesfull season.
I must say I don´t wish to draw this team, the result 4:0 in Armenia shows the strenght of them.
But still it is a Czech team so not the best in Europe. Wink

Can't say I'm to impressed by them after watching 4 matches this spring. Nothing more than mediocre Tippeliga level in my opinion.

Plzeň=Pilsen, capital of the best beer in the world Smile
basic information for the RBK supporters who will come to our country - Pilsen is quite easily accesible from Prague (highway - 1hour, train - 1h, 50 mins). I suggest to take bus http://www.studentagency.eu/ Wink
Enjoy the beer (pils), HEIA RBK!

I described them in this topic little bit yesterday.
I have to add - their stadium is under reconstruction, they use only the main stand with very limited capacity! (photos for example here - https://picasaweb.google..../Stadionek )

BUT! Seems it is not certain whether UEFA will allow Pilsen to play 3rd qual. round at their stadium. Another possibility is Prague and stadium Eden (Slavia) or Generali Arena (Sparta).

The local council are planning a €12m revamp of the Štruncovy sady Stadium with a view to more big European nights – and maybe title celebrations – ahead. Vrba remains cagey about his own ambitions, though.

"I hope we will play in Europe next autumn and that it will be at our own stadium, not in exile," he [Vrba] said.

Experience from a Norwegian football midfielder has twenty-five years Victoria - Martin Fillo, he served for three years at Viking Stavanger. As he remembers the mutual Viking duels with Rosenborg?

"Those memories are not very pleasant. I played several matches against Rosenborg, but not once have won him over. The more I wish that it came out now," he laughs.

There is something specific Norwegian football?

"But Norway's Rosenborg is not a typical club. It is one class higher than the others and is a regular participant in European cups. The team has several foreigners, its budget is much higher than other clubs. These are all things that make it a European velkoklub."

Advantages and Trondheim?

"It's definitely fotbalovost. He can go for the result until the end of the match. Often play a balanced game, but it can just decide at the very end. Likewise, you can watch the result."

Rosenborg? Tak troÅ¡ku jsem si jej přál, říká Tomáš Paclík (Google translate)

Could be tricky but I guess the real test comes in the final qualifier as we found out last year.

Breidablik 2-0 RBK minutes left...Yikes!

If this results stands, Jonsson surely has to win return leg and perform better in the league otherwise we have no option?

My bad, forgot about the first leg!

Oh well, still disappointing and we will probably have to play a bit better to beat Plzen. Anyone confident given our form right now?

Indeed, the question is, do we want to win the league or qualify for the CL? Can we do both this year? Financially, the CL is the better result but obviously the pride is in winning the league.

Let's hopefully do both!

0-1 Plzen. Sad but I guess it reflects our poor form right now. We have a tough task ahead to qualify for the CL, we need 2 goals and a win in Czech Republic next week.

FC Viktoria Plzeň may have taken a big step towards a place in the UEFA Champions League play-offs with Wednesday night's win at Rosenborg BK, but their coach Pavel Vrba has warned them against thinking the hard work is already done.

"The result gives us a lot of encouragement for the return game, but we mustn't overplay it. The Norwegians are stubborn opponents – they're not going to give up after losing one game."
