Classic case of not finishing your chances plagued RBK the entire match.

Fortunately RBK has a week off before making the long return leg to AZB.

(...) the Abu Dhabi royal family which transformed City’s financial fortunes could now do the same for Welsh Premier league outfit Bangor City.

Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, nephew of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, received a PhD from Bangor University and promised to look into investing some of the family’s £500bn riches into the North Wales club.

Rosenborg are pretty optimistic before travelling to Baku tomorrow, and I hope the "shock" of not scoring last time has disappeared.

The starting line-up will be the same as in the first leg:

Rune Jarstein

Mikael Lustig - Kris Stadsgaard - Alejandro Lago - Mikael Dorsin

Anthony Annan - Alexander Tettey
Per Ciljan Skjelbred - Steffen Iversen - Trond Olsen

Rade Prica

The first leg was a rather dull affair but I just can't see you progressing against this team. A pity about the early kick off though, I suspect the governor won't be to happy about live streams while still at work.

The scalp of UEFA Champions League group-stage regulars Rosenborg would represent arguably an even bigger achievement. Qarabağ coach Gurban Gurbanov knows it will not come easy, however.

"We will need effort, discipline and a bit of luck, plus of course the right choice of players and tactics," said the Azerbaijan national team's all-time leading scorer, who conversely favours defensive football as a coach.

"We are not good enough to impose ourselves against a strong side like Rosenborg," he added.

Hopefully Qarabag nevertheless will be more attacking, giving Rosenborg more space and opportunities to attack.

Famous victory
By holding the Norwegian side to a goalless draw in Trondheim in last week's second qualifying round first leg, Qarabağ have put themselves in a position to perhaps even better their victory over Maccabi Haifa FC in the 1999 UEFA Intertoto Cup. That first-round triumph, with Qarabağ prevailing on away goals, was the first by a team from Azerbaijan in European club competition.

well done..good luck

Apparently they are.

RBK's inability to score goals at home cost us the round. Huge upset.

Confused

Allow me to quote Didier Drogba...

"It's a disgrace! it's a f'n disgrace!"

Seriously, that's the most embarrassing moment I've ever had as RBK fan.

I could live with huge losses to teams like PSG, Lyon, Chelsea...
I could live with less than stellar performances even against decent opponents [see last year's UEFA Cup Group Stage]
Even the heavy losses before the "glory years" were tolerable.

But going home eliminated by a team from Azerbaijan can't be explained or excused.

As I've said several times in the Norwegian side on the board, overconfidence has proved fatal.
We were lucky against NSI, Løv-Ham and Godset.

Now we paid the highest price for our inability to create and to convert chances into goals.
Sadly, we got the bill in the one and only match we NEEDED to win.

Totally weird, in the league we are solid and in the cups we seem to struggle - despite a strong squad.

Guess we can focus on winning the league but it's still a very poor result.

Not just a poor result ,but a really poor perfomance and that is really a bad omen for the rest of the season. Let's hope we can get back to our ways on sunday against Lillestrøm.

Agreed. I think Lillestrom will be like Molde 0-2 at home, a big moment in the season.

Still, looking on the bright side, losing out on the Europe Cup revenue isn't so important. I think should we win the league this season, gaining entry into the CL in the future is a must.

I think Hamren will get us there and we will win the league but I think the Qarabag result and previous Cup disappointments will show him where we need to strengthen.

You really are looking for the positives aren't you?

Cool

Of course entering the next CL is a must, but there is no bright side. I think this year's Europa League would be important for RBK to show European football it still lives and is competitive! Last year sucked... this year sucked even more! This is one of the Worst Rosenborg's participations in Europe ever...

It is the worst, at least compared to the expectations from the results in the league. 2004 Was the last season where we actually managed to win the league and reach the goal in Europe at the same time - get into the groupstage of Champ.League (or in this case - Europa League).

Is the modern Rosenborg only good enough for one tournament? All the cup seasons since 2003 have been failures as well.

If we had had the possibility of playing Euro cup in 2006, I think we could have managed both.

The "champions path" is seemingly good for clubs like Maccabi - and Rosenborg next year. Thanks, Platini!

Congratulations, Maccabi! What I hate the most with not qualifying is to see teams on our level getting closer the competition. I'd love to be in your shoes now and discuss who we rather want to play in the groupstage etc. Smile

Will be nice to see you in the groupstage, unless you screw it in the second leg. Don't give away too many freekicks in the overtime and you're saved Wink

As for the new format: You must love it. Champions are having an easier road to the competition, which is good. There's no doubt that Maccabi and Zurich would struggled to survive in the bigger leagues, but soul beats money. And with less bigger teams in, the difference between the bigger and smaller leagues should be smaller in the future when it comes to sponsers and stuff, now that we have a great chance to get into the groupstage. At the same time, the biggest teams can not really complain. Three teams automatically qualified is not really bad.
