Sorry for having been absent a short while... But something rather big happened.
While preparing for a holiday and keeping an eye on the Norsk job market, having had some frustrating previous interviews, it looked like I was set for another while in Ireland. Then suddenly out of nothing I received a job offer from Turkey from a company who noticed my CV online and showed concrete interest. As I needed a change from Ireland I decided to see what it was about. I booked a last minute to Istanbul and was charmed immediately by what they had to offer. I figured that if I needed to wait for a Norwegian adventure anyway, a new challenge was the right thing to do meanwhile and a new experience was welcome for sure. So I accepted the offer and relocated to Istanbul in a rather short time.
The reason for absence was lack of internet. Only now, after a small two months which were very hectic due to relocation, househunting, and new job... I finally got my internet connection arranged.
But to cut a long story short: I got the offer to live and work in Turkey for a year and figured it was a perfect new challenge after I felt I needed something new. Norway remains the dream but the applications remained going wrong because of lack of Norwegian language skills... a new challenge felt like the right thing to do and I was very charmed by Istanbul from the first moment on. My plan is to now enjoy Turkey for a while, travel around the Middle East meanwhile (Green Apes: expect a visit from me in the near future!) and meanwhile save some money in order to attempt Norway again within approx. 1 year.
But back online so back on board, and with exciting changes that just happened _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

PS: I consider enrolling in a Norsk language course as well to meanwhile improve my chances for moving to Norway after my job in Istanbul has ended. I do have one of those self-teaching manuals but that is not really the same as a real course heh... _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

Very nice. Turkish is one of the big European languages so some knowledge should come in handy. Congrats! |

Thanks for the congrats But do you seriously mean that Turkish is a useful language? In Turkey yes of course, but outside Turkey it is either unspoken or (in a few select countries) a minority language. But anyway, we will try to learn it a bit anyway _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

Aren't there about a hundred million people in China speaking some "Turk" language too? |

Why not, I'm sure there must be something to see there heh I do hope to visit Armenia while being based in "the Bul", I always found Armenia a very interesting place and I would fancy a visit to Yerevan for a long weekend.
I look forward to early September. Manic Street Preachers and Tool in one same week, that is as close to paradise as music can ever be. _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

Is it a big Turkish community in Norway? Do they have any own sports team like the Turks in the Benelux and Germany have?
@ GA: no problems mate. If I visit Israel (and I am not too far from Israel now, Istanbul-Tel Aviv is not such a long flight) we go to a Maccabi game together and I pay the drinks! _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!
