Astana won 3-0 over Olimpi Rustavi today, and Rosenborg therefore have to make a big journey to Kazakhstan next week.
The match will be played in the city of Kostanai because the homeground of Astana is not approved for use in UEFA competitons.

Maybe a draw away from home wouldn't be too bad, especially a high scoring one. Combining both League and European Cup match's will be difficult, especially as RBK are playing catch-up in the league. |

Welcome to our forum, Ermek!
Vladimir Smirnov is still the most famous Kazakh in Norway, but after these two matches maybe some of the Astana players have gotten some fame too.
After a quite bad season so far Rosenborg hopefully have begun their usual good run in the autumn. Exactly as last year Brann Bergen are 7 points ahead of us, and the rest of the season will be kind of a thriller. Hopefully we can defend our league title, but this time there are more clubs between Brann and us.
Six years ago Rosenborg were ranked as the 35th best on the UEFA club ranking. The club wants to repeat history, but it is far to go, especially when it comes to the players. In the moment Marek Sapara (midfielder), Steffen Iversen (striker) and Lars Hirschfeld (goalkeeper) are the ones to watch, while the two wingers Didier Konan (wanted by Ajax and Charlton last year) and Daniel Braaten (wanted by several English and French clubs in the moment) also might cause some trouble.
After spending most of the prize monies from 10 seasons in the Champions League (1995-2002, 2004 and 2005) on building a new stadium and signing expensive, bad players, Rosenborg now (again) have begun prioritizing developing own, local players. They will be well familiar to our famous 4-3-3 formation (UEFA.com lists uf before Ajax under typical 4-3-3 club teams!) and hopefully very loyal to the club as they are local lads.
Our two reserve/U19 teams, RBK2 and RBK3, are playing in regular senior leagues, Norwegian 2nd and 3rd division, and are packed with players representing Norway on U17, U18 and U19 levels. When Rosenborg knocked AC Milan out of the Champions League in 1996, 9 of 11 players in the starting line-up were from the Trondheim area. This is not likely to happen again in a globalized world of football, but hopefully the basis of future teams will be local players with a big heart for Rosenborg.
On the first team, Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Alexander Tettey, are well established on our midfield, and they are looked upon as the team's future "grand old men".
As Rosenborg not will be seeded in the draw of the 3rd qualifying round, we most likely will have to be content with playing the 1st round of the UEFA Cup instead of the group stage of the Champions League - if we knock out Astana.
Probable starting line-up on Wednesday:
Lars Hirschfeld
Roar Strand - Christer Basma - Miika Koppinen - Mikael Dorsin
Marek Sapara - Alexander Tettey - Per Ciljan Skjelbred
Didier Konan - Steffen Iversen - Daniel Braaten |

Without any reason Astana have cancelled their deal with Norwegian TV3! The TV3 boss thinks the reason might be that they are angry at the decision to kick off the return leg at 20:45 CET (00:45 Kazakh time).
I think this is really rotten of Astana. For the first time since 1994 no Norwegian TV channel will broadcast a Champions League qualifying match for Rosenborg.
Which TV channel shows the match in Kazakhstan? Any way to watch it on satellite (or even maybe web)? |

this is such an awesome game. If only I had any cash left after relocating I would do this trip. When else do you come in Kazakhstan? This is much more than a football trip: it is a unique travel experience. Too bad it is not in Astana because I heard it is a very pleasant town. And add to that the nice bizarrity of playing a Euro game in a place further east than most of Iran and Pakistan. Very nice game. And without ignoring the progress Kazakh teams made (both national team and clubs) recently but this should be a not very tough one for RBK.
To those travelling: do NOT mention Borat as the Kazakh people always get angry when foreign visitors talk about it. They seem to feel offended by it, even though Baron Cohen obviously mocked with any American in the film much more than he did with any kazakh. _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

On a normal day Rosenborg should beat Astana. I heard our opponent had to travel 800 km by bus to Kostanai yesterday, and that is not a perfect build-up to an important match.
As you know, Rosenborg sold Daniel Braaten to Bolton yesterday, and Yssouf Kone will replace him in the attack. This means RBK will play with two ordinary strikers, which is quite unusual for a 4-3-3 team like us.
Our team:
Lars Hirschfeld
Roar Strand - Christer Basma - Miika Koppinen - Mikael Dorsin
Marek Sapara - Vidar Riseth - Alexander Tettey
Steffen Iversen - Yssouf Kone - Didier Konan |

Kone saved us today. Astana gave up after his 3-1 goal, and I can't imagine they score more than two goals at Lerkendal.
3rd qualifying round, here we come! |

Good result. Assuming RBK take care of the return leg, hopefully they get a kind draw in the next round.
Now to concentrate on the league... |

Yssouf Kone finally got a chance to show what he is good for, and single-handedly made sure that RBK will get to the next round of the Champions League qualifiers.
