RBK sign Bjørn Tore Kvarme

After being released by his French club Bastia earlier in January, Bjørn Tore Kvarme the last weeks has been considering contract offers from both Rosenborg and FC Lyn Oslo. On Friday he finally chose RBK.

Rosenborg coach Per Joar Hansen is very pleased with Kvarme's decision.

"Bjørn Tore is born in Trondheim and has played for the club before. He's familar with the "working environment" in Rosenborg and knows what to expect. We get a very motivated player who wants to win trophies with Rosenborg again," Hansen says.

I understand that many will focus on the player's age (33 this summer). But in my eyes he's just a direct replacement for transfer listed Torjus Hansén. In other words is the rejuvenation of Rosenborg "at ease".

Kvarme is however a much better player than Hansén, and therefore the RBK defence is strengthened. This signing does also give Rosenborg better time finding the new Erik Hoftun.

I did Razz My posts are getting better, if you haven't noticed. My Norsk skills aren't the best, hence the reason why I say little things like "... er bra".

Back on topic, and Kvarme...

Why only extending the contract for 1 year? That is quite rare these days because this would mean that at the end of the season he could leave us without getting any money for him. Why not extending his contract with 2 years at once?

He is going to retire for sure. He was going to retire after last season, but Rosenborg convinced him to continue for one more year.

He's been a good player for RBK but it's hard to expect him to play every game next season even if he were to continue playing.

It's time for a new defence.

Old news for you reading rbk.no, but yesterday's draw at Bodø was the last match for Kvarme: "Beto" retires

For many years he was kind of a forgotten player among Norwegians including the Norway head coaches (Olsen and Semb), even though he was playing great in France and Spain. His first year in Liverpool (Jan-Dec 1997) was also great, and "France Football" picked him for their European team of the year. Smile

Why isn't Kvarme in the lineup?

Angelo Peruzzi (Juventus og Italia) - Gary Neville (Manchester United), Laurent Blanc (Marseille og Frankrike), Fernando Hierro (Real Madrid og Spania), Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid og Brasil) - Luis Figo (Barcelona og Portugal), Fernando Redondo (Real Madrid og Argentina), Zinedine Zidane (Juventus og Frankrike), Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus og Italia) - Christian Vieri (Atletico Madrid og Italia), Ronaldo (Inter og Brasil)

I guess he's almost the last of the "older generation" of RBK players to go and it won't be that long before we lose Strand/Basma either by the looks of it.

These guys have been good servants to the club and there are plenty of happy memories.

I wouldn't rank Kvarme among Strand, Skammelsrud and Hoftun etc. in serving the club, ever since Kvarme left for free after just three seasons as a regular...
