Are there plans of rebuilding the stadium now as Gazprom have bought Zenit?

Looks really great! What's the capacity and building costs?

Capacity will be 62167. "Zenit.com" have not announced building costs.

Looks quite expensive, but Gazprom can afford it. Wink

Yes, certainly, but I don't like "Газпром" (Gazprom) taking over the club. The stadium will probably be called Gazprom Stadium at the end.

I would really hate it if Lerkendal Stadium is renamed to some sponsor name, but when it comes to building new stadiums on new locations, I think it is more OK. The new stadium doesn't have any other name.

OK, but Zenit fans don't like it.

I think old stadiums have more "soul".

I agree on that, I also prefer old authentic stadiums. Stadiums that look exactly like 80 years ago, with wooden benches and all sorts of plants all over the old terraces, that's just superb.

There's enough nice modern grounds, but what I truely dislike is the sort of stadiums with shopping centres, cinemas and casinos built onder the stands. I mean, a football stadium should be a football environment and not a place where casinos and shopping centres can be found Rolling Eyes

Russia (and the former USSR) is my groundhopping dream. There's so many authentic old stadiums to see... I'd love to make a stadium tour there, starting from St Petersburg with a visit to Zenit, then driving to Moscow to visit Lokomotiv, CSKA and Spartak stadiums, then continuing to Kiev and Tbilissi. All those cities have some beautiful old stadiums, and the cities themselves seem very interesting just as well.

Then I guess you prefer Lerkendal before it was rebuilt:

(You have probably seen it before)

Yes. I support Rosenborg since 1993, so I have seen the old Lerkendal shortly before it was rebuilt.

I liked the big stands a lot like it was before, but I find it an improvement that now we have stands behind the goals without a far distance from the field. So guess Lerkendal is one of the exceptions where modernising was an improvement.

But if you check Amsterdam ArenA for example: they had such a lovely authentic ground (De Meer) and then Ajax builds a stadium that looks as horrible as a crashed-down UFO Neutral (by the way, I attended Ajax-Rosenborg in the Champions League 2001. Very nice game and good atmosphere, but there's something about the ArenA that is just not suiting a football decor. Well, that's just my opinion, it just looks so weird for a football stadium.

There are two main stadiums in St. Petersburg: Petrovsky (cap. 22300) and S.M. Kirov (cap. 80000).

I love stadiums like before the 90's: Everyone standing, and focus only on football (no casino and restaurant crap). Much higher attendances in those days: It is rumoured 240000 people in 127000 Wembley stadium capacity in 1923 FA Cup final! Also 199854 officially (may be up to 250000) in 1950 World Cup final!

EDIT: Yes, old Lerkendal was fantastic! I think so too.

I like a combination of seats and standing, but the seats ideally have wooden benches like in the old days, or some sort of structure like in the good days.

But restaurants, shops (apart from supporters store), casinos, cinemas, etc in a football stadium = true horror Tommel'n ned

I visited approx 1200 grounds of all sizes, both famous and obscure, and one of the weirdest I saw was AGF Aarhus in Denmark, which was completely with aluminium seats in grey colour. Bizarre. I was very surprised to see they were relegated, as the stadium was very big and luxurious so I thought they were a true top team in Denmark...

Old Trafford was a disappointment to me, with all that modern non-football crap (a football club producing credits and loans? Neutral That's crazy) and to be honest I found Barcelona's ground looking much smaller than I'd expected. Nah, give me the old authentic grounds.

My standard questions:
- Building costs?
- Capacity?

Seems nice. Why is that one roof much larger than the rest of the stadium's stands though?

Has anyone seen the plans for Southend United's new stadium? It will have a very long tunnel attached to it, as if they want to connect a highway straight onto the pitch Neutral

The stadium of Galatasaray has a great atmosphere,it's really old,but our supporters don't want another stadium because Ali Sami "Hell" is a place that has a "soul" Very Happy
