Ah, we have nothing to contribute to the UCL, but who gives a fuck as long as we can get the money.

Hmm.. players mentality rubbing off on me....

bla bla bla... let's wait and see first.

It's difficult to predict Rosenborg these days, and it will certainly not come as a shock for us if we have to settle for the UEFA-cup this year. But even with Rosenborg's "up and down" performance lately, we definately are favourites to reach the group stage!

RBK are up and down alright. I'd imagine you will get it together for the 3rd round qualifier but Shels are really out to win and not just in it to make up the numbers so its going to be really difficult for you.

Plus your varied form is more of a motivation factor for both Steaua and Shels. A €10 million carrot in front of us !!

If Shels dont win or get a scoring draw on wednesday then I will be bitterly disapointed. Steaua look good on the ball but I think we have matched them in every department and we should go through.

I think youll keep up for maybe one half, then run out of air. Playing those Eastern Europeans in their own den is a biatch!

All hail the -95 edt. of Spartac Moscow. Best. Team. EVER! (that I saw anyway...) Well, we have never met a better team, and that is counting, Real Madrid, Porto, Munich (the German one, not the Machester one Very Happy), Dortmund, Milan, Sampdoria, etc etc.

if we score early we should be flying. I know their supporters are very impattient and if they dont score early they will get on their teams back. The away goals is going to make our night a lot easier. They have to beat us, we just need a draw Cool

"decline for a number of years"...? That's a bit exaggurated...

We have had a drop in form since last summer, but we still have ok results from Europe the last two seasons:

2003

CL qual. 2nd round:
Bohemians-RBK 0-1
RBK-Bohemians 4-0

CL qual. 3rd round:
RBK-Deportivo 0-0
Deportivo-RBK 1-0
(This was the first time in 8 years we didn't qualify for CL. Considering the opponent I think we did pretty well... Deportivo lost to Porto in the semi-finals, and Porto won CL.)

UEFA-cup 1st round:
Ventspils-RBK 1-4
RBK-Ventspils 6-0

UEFA-cup 2nd round:
RBK-Red Star Belgrade 0-0
Red Star Belgrade-RBK 0-1

UEFA-cup 3rd round:
Benfica-RBK 1-0
RBK-Benfica 2-1

2004

CL qual. 2nd round:
Sheriff Tiraspol-RBK 0-2
RBK-Sheriff Tiraspol 2-1

CL qual. 3rd round:
RBK-Maccabi Haifa 2-1
Maccabi Haifa-RBK 2-3

CL group stage:
RBK-Panathinaikos 2-2
Panathinaikos-RBK 2-1
RBK-Arsenal 1-1
Arsenal-RBK 5-1
PSV-RBK 1-0
RBK-PSV 1-2

With the current form we didn't stand a chance away against Arsenal, and PSV turned out to be a lot tougher than we expected. After losing both home and away to PSV it was actually a relief to see them in the semi-finals against AC Milan... Milan were lucky to reach the final after scoring an away goal just before full time in Holland.

My point is: We may be a weaker team this season, but we sure as hell don't tremble before these two matches against Shelbourne/Steaua. If we lose, we lose. Rosenborg is no giant in european football, and we don't have to qualify for CL every year. The UEFA-cup may suit us better considering our current form...

We are more concerned about our current league position in Norway... we may not play in Europe at all next year Sad

Yeah Rosenborg have done very well in the Champions League, no doubt about that. Fair play to the club in breaking the mold all those years ago. You have some great results.

I still think your club is in decline. You arent the team you used to be. Maybe a new manager or new players might change all that.

The UEFA Cup might suit us as well. Either way we HAVE to get to the 3round qualifiers. We wont be in the CL qualifiers next season because were currently 3rd and too many points adrift. But were defintely going to give everything in the game tomorrow night. It would be great to play Rosenborg again after so many years. Very Happy Very Happy

Tell us something we dont know!

But the while the problem manifests it self on the pitch, that isn't where it is. The problem lies at the heart of the club, with those supposed to manage it.

And since I'm a lazy bastard, I'll just wuote my self from Bohs forums:

Well, i would have to say a sports director and board who have been run by the sponsors and utterly incompetent since we played Juve in the UCL quarterfinals in -97 when it comes to exploiting the potential of this club marketwise and squadwise.
Nepotism all the way with a smll bunch of comrades who have neglected to keep the club evolving.

A generation of players who are our all time greats, but should have been phased out during the last 5 years due to age and lack of skills now. But one cant touch those guys, so for the last ten years we have been buying back-up players, and now that the old guys really are shite, that's what we're left with. a club of back-up players.
Add to this that they are lazy, mediocre primadonnas who wouldn't even consider going into tackles (Roar Strand excepted, that guy would run Haile Gbresel..well somthing into the ground) or duels. Wouldnt want to get the jersey dirty, or have to shower before one goes out for the latest batch of bumf****d groupies.

on top of this we have a coach that...well, lets just say, when the cvnt Hareide ran off to the national team in 2003, we promoted the assistant coach. He "only" won the league and qualified for the UCL, but some of the old players were complaining (probably due to the fact that he actually had the backbone to go ahead with the generation change), so he got canned, and HIS assistant promoted. Now, what a show of ambition by the club, wouldn't you say?

Anyways, this is where we are at. The board keeps evaluating THEMSELVES, and, oh shock, find they have done everything right, we went out of the cup against a struggling division 1 team, and they owned the match. After the sumemr break they claimed they had worked on our problems, but then we went ahead and got it up the arse from bottom-of-the-league Aalesund last weekend.

(and I bet you're having a field day, arent you, Chris Rock you damn VÃ¥lenga supporter! ;D)

By the way, had a look at your results, and while not entirely as crap as ours, based on having the same sort of squad we do (by comparison), you haven't really set the EirCom alight.

No we havent. we were on fire last season knocking everything down in front of us. This season were not as strong in the Eircom league, our main rivals Cork City FC got a new manager and really instilled a winning mentality compared to Dolan last season and they have been unstopable (so far).

I think the players that we signed at the end of last season have been around a while and are more focused on Europe than the league IMO. We should really be second but I have no doubt that we will finish there. Still we miss out on the Champions League qualifers next season. Only UEFA Cup qualifers instead Sad

I hope you get your club sorted out (after we play you of course Razz ) That board of directors sounds pathetic.

So was I !!

We have better players than last year(ask anyone from the EL), I think the irratic results is down to motivational factors. But the players are totally motivated for Europe. They want to break into Europe before the end of their careers. Plus we owe Steaua and the manger a result Wink

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. The fact you havent performed better with the squad you have at your disposal. Like us....

Its a disapointing season for us in the league. We are really underachieving Confused No silverware this season I fear. Just Europe to concentrate on.

I also think experience is on our side. Playing in european cups is quite different from home championship. I hope Rosenborg will get into the main phase and there? It is about a luck.
But anything is possible. Rosenborg can be bad in 3rd round and bye, bye Champions League Surprised . We should have a positive eye. In UEFA cup we could have several good results => many points in our euro-cups rating. Tommel'n opp! Idea
