Well, obviously I can't possibly count that far (I'm a semi-scouser you see, with a rather limited amount of intellectual resources available ), but Frode is supposed to be amongst the top 3 strikers as we speak. The heat and humidity in Japan during augsut and september is simply beyond belief. But with Frode doing as well, as he has over the last cople of games for a team like Nagoya, well, he could be up there amongst the top 1-2 strikers come the end of the season. Just don't expect the likes of West Ham,Charlton or Derby to come in with any late offers.

...."Engelsk";

He is out injured for a few weeks, so it looks like he is going to have to do some "catching up" for that 3rd place Sad

Hello Lloyd --

do you know if any Japanese channels are showing the Champions League this year?

Sorry for bumping this thread with an OT-question.

The Japanese league is coming to an end and Nagoya has had a fairly disappointing sesaon. Mentioned as one of the outsiders for the league, the team currently lies a lacklustre 13th (out of 18 teams). Frode Johnsen has had a difficult end to his season, having spent most of the autumn sidellined with injuries. Today was another story altogether though, he scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 away win against fellow strugglers Oita Trinita.

The quality of football seems to be slowly picking up in Japan. Urawa Reds won the Asian Champions League Final this week and could possibly face AC Milan in the yearly Mickey Mouse tournament for clubs in Tokyo later this year Tommel'n opp!

J-League has just kicked off again and Nagoya has had a fairly decent start to their season. Frode scored his third goal this weekend and his team is currently in 2nd place, if I am not mistaken (I haven't ben paying much attention so far, so I might just be wrong....Embarassed) Did see the goal though, a fairly easy tap in from close range and not much to write home about, still, a goal is a goal is a goal.... Tommel'n opp!

Another two yesterday, he must be the most prolific striker in the Japanese-league just now, that's five in a season which just kicked off. Tommel'n opp!

Pretty long one, should give you a picture of the quality of the league as well. The national side has improved and played some decent matches lately, but the J-league is still somewhat behind "average" European standards. Guess what young Japanese players lack are playing against tougher, European-style players. Most of their matches are against the likes of Quatar, Thailand, Vietnam.....

You might have read in the papers that Frode scored another goal at May 17 up in Sapporo. What struck me this weekend though, was some very different things taking place closer to Tokyo. Urawa Reds from Saitama the biggest and best supported teams locally, had to endure 10 minutes of crowd trouble after playing Gamba Osaka. An English friend of mine was there and, having attended matches in the UK extensively throughout the 70 and 80s, was quite taken back to see just how violent the fighting was. But now for the real news. On coming back from the match he wasn't able to see any reports on it on TV or sports news, neither was he able to to read anything in the news. The same goes for me, while it might have crawled under my radar, I have read or seen nothing.

On seconds thoughts though, this might perhaps not a bad strategy. Don't give these idiots the 15 min of fame they crave but don't deserve......

A propos Frode...

Was he sold to Grampus during the 2006 Tippeliga season, or before/after it?

BTW, who took over his #9 shirt, before Pelu had it this season?

During the season. I don't think anyone had it before Pelu got it.

That's what I thought...

Odd though, as I've seen a TL "to stjerner logo" shirt (that must from be 2007 season) with #9, so I wondered if I had missed something

Well, I wouldn't mind shelling out 60-70€ for it, but it just CAN'T be Johnsen's shirt...
