Ghana's WC Opponents Return From Training Camp
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 05/27 - Burkina Faso`s football squad returned to Ouagadougou after a weeklong training camp in Lens, northern France.

The Stallions have resumed work to prepare for their first match in the joint World Cup/African Cup of Nations qualifying series against Ghana on 5 June.

Coach Ivica Todorov, the new coach of the Burkinabe side, expressed satisfaction with the Lens camp in spite of his proteges` loss against the city`s premier league club.

He said he learnt a lot of his players, pointing to the dynamism of Florent Rouamba and Issouf Sanou in the midfield and to the talent of striker Yssouf Kone.

Todorov was, however, disappointed with the performance of his goalkeepers Siaka Coulibaly, Mohamed Kabore and Sylvain Kabore, who failed to make a good impression on him.

He will be looking for replacements, he added.

CASABLANCA - The first leg of the CAF Cup final pits the deadliest strikers in the African club competition against the meanest defenders Saturday.

Raja Casablanca of Morocco have scored 24 goals in eight games with Hicham Aboucheroaune snatching six while Cotonsport Garoua of Cameroon conceded just four in the same number of matches.

Most of the Moroccan goal haul has come at the 80,000-capacity Mohamed V Stadium with Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso conceding four, FC 105 of Gabon six, Black Rhinos of Zimbabwe five and Enugu Rangers of Nigeria four.

Aboucherouane was voted top player in the more prestigious African Champions League last year and red tape prevented him joining English Premiership outfit Southampton.

He has been having trials in Qatar and Raja hope the star will return to face Cotonsport, who eliminated Maranatha of Togo, Sundowns of South Africa, title holders JS Kabylie of Algeria and Club Africain of Tunisia.

But the leading CAF Cup scorer is just one of many potential matchwinners in a 'Green Devils' squad guided by widely travelled, senior French coach Henri Michel.

Nigerian Moussa Souleymane has struck four goals during a campaign that began in Burkina Faso last March and there have been three each from Mustapha Bidoudane, Nourdine Harouach and Ivorian Yssouf Kone.

Now comes the biggest test against Cotonsport, who held 2001 Champions League runners-up Sundowns until stoppage time in South Africa and forced a goalless draw at three-time CAF Cup winners Kabylie.

Cotonsport, who lack the glamour of Yaounde clubs Canon and Tonnerre, will be mindful of what happened to the latter in the previous CAF Cup final. Tonnerre went to Algeria with high hopes only to crash 4-0 in the first leg.

With the experience of four Champions League finals, three of which they won, Raja must be favoured to build a winning lead ahead of the November 23 return match.

Although frequent campaigners in continental competitions, Garoua never reached a final until this year when they brushed aside Club Africain with surprising ease in the penultimate phase.

Coached by former Cameroon World Cup defender Bonaventure Djonkep, the team sponsored by a cotton company lack big names and leading scorer Hamadou Soussia have managed a meagre two goals.

But they can draw some comfort from the knowledge that Cameroon boast an unbeaten record against Morocco in a competition for national championship runners-up.

Cotonsport eliminated then title holders Kawkab Marrakech in 1997, winning 1-0 at home after a 1-1 draw in north-west Africa, and Canon held Wydad Casablanca twice in the semi-finals two years later only to lose a shootout.

The second leg of the final is scheduled for Garoua in western Cameroon - a match that will signal the end of a competition staged yearly since 1992 when Shooting Stars of Nigeria won the first edition.

Next year, the CAF Cup and the Cup Winners Cup will become one competition - the Confederation Cup - with hopes of prize money being extended for the first time at club level beyond the Champions League.

Jeg må nok en gang gjenta min skepsis til å kjøpe denne spilleren. Hvem kan ikke imponere på Rosenborg-trening? Litt bedre teknikk enn en gjennomsnittlig norsk spiller og vi er solgt. Eller rettere sagt, spilleren er solgt. Kjøp en spiller fra en av de europeiske ligaene istedet.

Kone ser ikke ut til å være fast på landslaget til Burkina Faso, heller det motsatte. Kan ikke se at han har vært i troppen i VM-kvalikkamp siden borte mot Sør-Afrika i juli 2004, og ikke på banen i VM-kvalik siden borte mot Kongo i juni samme år.
